Sreenarayanaguru Open University (SGOU), Kerala’s first Open University based in Kollam, has released an official notification inviting online applications from eminent, innovative, and technology-driven library professionals for the post of University Librarian. This position is on a full-time contract basis, initially for a period of one year and extendable based on performance reviews and university requirements. The successful candidate will lead the establishment of the University’s hybrid Central Library and Learning Resource Centre from the ground up.

Eligibility Criteria

Essential Qualifications and Experience (as per UGC Regulations, 2018)

Candidates must possess all of the following as on the last date of receipt of applications:

  1. Degree: A Master’s Degree in Library Science / Information Science / Documentation Science with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale).

  2. Experience: At least five years as a Librarian at any level in a University/college Library, or 5 years of teaching as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor in Library Science, or 5 years’ experience as a College/institution Librarian. (Experience counts only for regular or full-time service in UGC-recognized or statutory bodies).

  3. Skills & Innovation: Evidence of innovative library services, including the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the library.

  4. Doctorate: A Ph.D. degree in Library Science / Information Science / Documentation / Archives and Manuscript-keeping.

Age Limit

  • Upper Age Limit: 50 years as on 01/01/2026.

  • Relaxation: Usual relaxation applies to SC/ST and OBC candidates as per Government of Kerala Rules and UGC Norms.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC Candidates: Rs. 1,000/-

  • SC / ST / PwBD Candidates: Rs. 500/-

  • Mode of Remittance: Online only, remitted to (Account No. 361401010035599, IFSC-UBIN0536148, Branch Union Bank, Kollam-1). A copy of the fee receipt must be submitted along with the hard copy of the application. Fee once paid is non-refundable.

Selection Process

  1. Application Scrutiny: Applications will be screened against UGC qualifications and notification terms. The University may shortlist candidates by fixing criteria higher than the minimum based on qualifications, experience, and desirable credentials.

  2. Presentation & Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a presentation on a vision plan for establishing a hybrid digital library at SGOU, followed by an interview before a Selection Committee constituted as per UGC norms and SGOU Statutes.

  3. (Note: No TA/DA will be paid for attending the presentation or interview.)

How to Apply

Tip: SGOU follows a strict two-step application process. You must submit your application online by November 11, 2026, AND ensure the physical printout along with the fee receipt, vision note, portfolio of work, and self-attested copies of all credentials reaches the University by November 18, 2026. Missing either step will result in summary rejection!

  1. Visit the official SGOU recruitment portal at https://sgou.ac.in/.

  2. Fill in all particulars in the online application form and upload legible copies of required documents.

  3. Remit the non-refundable application fee online to the specified Union Bank account (Kollam-1 branch) and save the fee receipt.

  4. After successful online submission, print out the completed application form, affix a passport-size photograph, sign it, and attach self-attested copies of all credentials, publication list, work portfolio, and a 1,000-word vision note.
